Non-contiguous space reported by fsck. Is this a problem?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • File System corruption was suspected, so the following command was run:
# shutdown -r -F now
  • The result seems normal, with no unusual actions occurring, but it seems that some File Systems have non-contiguous files.

  • The check indicates :

/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00: 5800/524288 (1.1% non-contiguous), 104883/524288 blocks => FS /
/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01: 555490/786432 (0.6% non-contiguous), 395983/786432 blocks => FS /usr
/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol04: 32768/786432 (0.7% non-contiguous), 340949/786432 blocks => FS /var
/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol03: 21/262144 (9.5% non-contiguous), 104883/524288 blocks => FS /tmp
