Why mii-tool is giving error as "SIOCGMIIPHY on 'ethX' failed: Operation not supported" in Red Hat Enterprise Lixnux 6 ?
Issue
- When using
mii-tool ethX, it gives errorSIOCGMIIPHY on 'ethX' failed: Operation not supported.
# mii-tool eth0
SIOCGMIIPHY on 'eth0' failed: Operation not permitted
ethtool ethXdoes not give any error.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4
- kernel-2.6.32-358.6.2.el6
- Network interface modules for which the issue is seen (till now): netxen_nic, e1000e
