subscription-manager facts output on 7.4 is missing DMI entries

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.4
  • subscription-manager-1.19.21-1.el7
  • python-dmidecode-3.12.2-1.el7

Issue

Output of subscription-manager facts on RHEL 7.4 is missing many DMI entries that were present in RHEL 7.3.

On RHEL 7.4 we can se only 5 facts:

dmi.slot.current_usage: In Use
dmi.slot.designation: PCI-E Slot 2
dmi.slot.slotlength: Long
dmi.slot.type:slotbuswidth: x8
dmi.slot.type:slottype: PCI Express 3

while we could see 60+ facts in RHEL 7.3.

This was observed on HPE DL380 Gen 9 machine.

Resolution

Please update python-dmidecode package to python-dmidecode-3.12.2-1.1.el7 shipperd with Advisory RHBA-2018:0144 or newer.

Root Cause

Prior to this update, the dmidecode utility did not properly detect Desktop Management Interfaces (DMIs) available to the system. This caused the subscription-manager facts to display an incomplete list of DMIs, and in some cases, it also led to Red Hat Satellite servers not receiving proper updates.
