Intermittent NFS permission denied for some operations

Issue

  • NFS df intermittently failing with:
df: `/path/to/nfs/mount': Permission denied
  • NFS cd or ls fails and logs the following error into /var/log/mesages:
May 15 20:19:26 hostname kernel: call_verify: server requires stronger authentication.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (NFS Client)
  • Solaris (NFS Server)
