OpenShift upgrade playbook changes "SystemMaxUse" value set in /etc/systemd/journalctl.conf.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We have modified the "SystemMaxUse" setting /etc/systemd/journalctl.conf to reduce the amount of logs journald is keeping on disk.
  • OpenShift 3.9 upgrade playbooks ultimately calls /usr/share/ansible/openshift-ansible/roles/openshift_node/defaults/main.yml which is changing that value.
  • Is there a reason for that? And can it be overridden with an ansible host variable?

Environment

  • OpenShift Container Platform
    • 3.9 and above
