grubby fails to update the value of repeated entries in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Grubby repeats the entries of a single parameter instead of updating its value and keeping single origin.

  • Duplicate entries present in the kernel command line. For e.g crashkernel parameter is repeated twice if updated using grubby:

    /proc/cmdline:
    BOOT_IMAGE=(hd0,gpt2)/vmlinuz-4.18.0-53.el8.x86_64 root=/dev/mapper/rhel-root ro crashkernel=auto resume=/dev/mapper/rhel-swap rd.lvm.lv=rhel/root rd.lvm.lv=rhel/swap rhgb quiet crashkernel=160M

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • Package earlier than grubby-8.40-32.el8.x86_64
