[RHEV] Windows guest OS got frozen

Issue

  • One of the windows guest running web base application which consist of MSSQL database is getting randomly frozen under RHEV environment. This has happened several times, while this happens it's not possible to log on to these servers.
  • Ping to this server at this time responds properly with replies. Memory usage as well as network utilization seems to be normal. Generated some reports by using RHEVM history database and noticed abnormal memory usage on mentioned VM.
  • This happened after updating the virtio driver from 2.1_37677 to 2.2_46140

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization v2.2
  • Guest OS= windows 2003 enterprise edition R2 SP2
  • Memory = 6 GB
  • Processors = 2 sockets and 4 cores in each socket
  • Applications = MsSQL server and IIS server.
