Do I need a Management Entitlement to register a system on the Satellite?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Red Hat Network Satellite

Issue

  • I have many Update Entitlements available in my account, but when I try to register a system on the Satellite, I get an error.
An error has occurred:

Error Message:
Registration failed: RHN Software service entitlements exhausted: enterprise_entitled
Error Class Code: 91
Error Class Info: Registration token unable to entitle system: maximum membership exceeded
Explanation:
Your organization does not have enough Management entitlements to register this
system to Red Hat Network. Please notify your organization administrator of this error.
You should be able to register this system after your organization frees existing
or purchases additional entitlements. Additional entitlements may be purchased by your
organization administrator by logging into Red Hat Network and visiting
the 'Subscription Management' page in the 'Your RHN' section of RHN.
  • We can't register any system. It's showing an error "No more management entitlements".

Resolution

  • A Management entitlement is required for each system (whether it is physical or virtual) registered to the Satellite:

(Abstract from Red Hat Network Satellite 5.3 Deployment Guide -3.3.Managing Entitlements- )
"The number of management entitlements allocated to an organization is equivalent to the maximum number of systems that may register to that organization on the Satellite, regardless of the number of software entitlements available. For example, if there are 100 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Client entitlements but only 50 management system entitlements to an organization, only 50 systems are able to register to that organization."

Root Cause

  • There is not enough Smart Management Entitlement in the account.
