How to make sure that system will automatically reboot after a kernel panic ?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We want the system to automatically reboot in X seconds for all types of kernel panic.
hung_task_panic
softlockup_panic
panic_on_oops
panic_on_oom
unknown_nmi_panic
panic_on_io_nmi
panic_on_unrecovered_nmi

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5,6
  • /proc/sys/kernel/panic
  • Kernel panic
  • Note that in RHEL5, panic_on_io_nmi does not work on HP Proliant servers that are G5s and older. This relates to the NMI code issued by the iLO in the older proliants which was not using the correct NMI code for an IO NMI.
