'ypcat passwd' fails with "No such map passwd.byname. Reason: Can't communicate with portmapper"

Issue

  • 'ypcat passwd' fails with following message on RHEL clients -
No such map passwd.byname. Reason: Can't communicate with portmapper
  • Solaris client (server1.example.com)can see the maps
  • RHEL clients (server2.example.com) can see NIS users but not the NIS maps
  • Solais NIS server (10.0.0.1) and RHEL clients are on the same subnet.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5
  • Solais NIS server
