Intel E5-2600 series hardware performance counter support
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
Issue
- I have just a principle question about support of the E5-2600 Intel processor in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Intel defines a large set of performance counter in the design of the chip, the question is: "Does the RHEL fully support the whole set of performance counter available within this version of processor ?"
- Do you have an exhaustive list of available (and correct) counter supported?
Resolution
This is the uncore/PMU feature.
Upstream started working on this here: http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&m=129126703923098&w=2.
RHEL supports this in RHEL6.4GA for the Nehalem-EX chipsets. Implementation was tracked in (private) bz696579. The 6.4_Release_Notes contain more details.
Support for uncore/PMU with the E5-2600 Intel processor is available in RHEL6.5GA and later, as mentioned in the 6.5_Release_Notes.
