After invoking hundreds or thousands of operations over time, the JBoss ON server fails with OutOfMemoryError

Issue

  • Server does not work after running a week or few days
  • Not able to log in or log in is very slow
  • Server becomes slow or nonresponsive and must be restarted

  • The server logs the following error message:

    ERROR [org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase] Servlet.service() for servlet ServerInvokerServlet threw exception java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded

Environment

  • JBoss Operations Network (ON) 3.0.1
  • Invoking thousands of resource operations
    • operations invoked by alert notifications
    • operations or group operations being scheduled from the user-interface (UI) or remote API
