Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • On RHEL7.5 sysrq fails to produce a Vmcore as follows. Instead the system just hangs until power cycled and there is nothing /var/crash.
# echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
# echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
    • kernel-3.10.0-862.el7.x86_64
  • kdump
