The network interface was re-activated with different IP address in kickstart file in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 installation

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • I'm using a temporary IP address to be specified in boot parameter for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 installation.
  • The temporary IP address is used to get the kickstart file.
  • In the %pre section in the kickstart file, two network kickstart commands are generated into a file, and it's included with %include section into the kickstart file. The generated network commands has a different permanent IP address.
  • NFS repository is used in my case, and it's allowed to mount with the temporary IP address, not with the permanent IP address.
  • Our expectation was that the temporary IP address kept to be used during the installation, and it worked with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3.
  • But in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5, the network interface was re-activated with a different permanent IP address generated in %pre section of the kickstart file. And, it caused a NFS hang problem since NFS mount could not survive the reactivation with different IP.
  • How to make it keep using the temporary IP address until the completion of the installation in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5?
