Directories in GFS2 filesytems are 0 bytes after they are initially created. Remount the GFS2 filesystem and the directories show a bytes size other than 0

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

Newly created directories on a GFS2 filesystem always show 0 bytes in the size field when the ls command is used to display the directories. Unmount the GFS2 filesystem and re-mount it and the correct size is shown.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 with any version of GFS2

  • At time of writing, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 has the problem as do all previous versions that included GFS2.
