What is the minimum kernel version required to support 32TB of RAM and 768 logical processors on the IBM Power System E880?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Environment

  • IBM Power System E880
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7

Issue

The IBM Power System E880 was originally certified to support up to 192 logical processors and 2TB of RAM on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1. When was support introduced for 32TB of RAM and 768 logical processors on this system?

Resolution

Support for 32TB of RAM and 768 CPUs on the IBM Power System E880 was introduced in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5 (kernel-3.10.0-862.el7). Support is also available in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 Extended Update Support (EUS) kernel version 3.10.0-693.25.2.el7 and newer 7.4 EUS kernels, as well as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 Extended Update Support (EUS) kernel version 3.10.0-514.48.1.el7 and newer 7.3 EUS kernels.
