dmsetup in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 does not report UUIDs for partitions on multipath devices

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • In RHEL 6, dmsetup does not appear to be reporting the UUID for the partitions of multipath devices. The multpath device itself still reports a UUID of mpath-<WWID>.

  • With Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5., dmsetup reports a UUID for partitions on multipath devices in the form: part<partition_number>-mpath-<WWID>. For example:

    # dmsetup info -c -o uuid
    <...>
    part1-mpath-360000970000194900348533030353534
    part1-mpath-360000970000194900348533030353436
