Yum cache size increases faster than expected due to a large amount of .sqlite files

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Yum cache directory size increases faster than expected (/var/cache/yum/) due to a large amount of .sqlite files

  • The yum cache fills '/var', with an unexpectedly large amount of '.sqlite' files in the '/var/cache/yum/' directory.

For Example:

/var/cache/yum/rhel-i386-server-5# ls -ltrh
total 246M
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1.0K Jun 27 2008 headers
