Error "Internal error occurred: 2 default StorageClasses were found" on Openshift Container Platform 3

Issue

Using the AWS EBS StorageProvisioner , running openshift-ansible, the config.yml playbook automatically creates a default storage class named gp2, breaking the existing default storage class with a different name.

Volume creation then fails with the error below and then the second class gets deleted.

Internal error occurred: 2 default StorageClasses were found
