Super slow performance with CLOUD FORMS 4.5 and separate database instance

I have cloud forms 4.5 running on Vmware 6.5, with a separate instance with over 8 CPU and 20 GB of ram each. I am just doing a proof of concept and it is dead slow on the browser as well as if I ssh into the appliance and run "appliance_console" it takes like 30 seconds to come up . why is it so slow how exactly can I get more info on the slowness?
