After upgrading packages on a RHEL 6.3 host, vdsm does not start and VMs cannot be started.

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

After upgrading packages, including vdsm and qemu-kvm-rhev, on a RHEL 6.3 host, the vdsmd service would not start. The versions installed were;

  • vdsm-4.10.2-1.6.el6.x86_64
  • qemu-kvm-rhev-0.12.1.2-2.355.el6_4.1.x86_64

When this version of vdsm was removed and the previous version (vdsm-4.9.6-44.3.el6_3) re-installed, vdsmd was then able to start. However, Virtual Machines could not be started.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) 3.1
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.3 host
  • vdsm-4.10.2-1.6.el6.x86_64
  • qemu-kvm-rhev-0.12.1.2-2.355.el6_4.1.x86_64
