Fronting JBoss with Microsoft IIS is much slower than serving content directly from JBoss

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We have used a HTTP analyser to measure the response times with and without the IIS connector. The result was that the delivery time through the IIS is about 5 times slower than if the request was made directly against the JBoss server.
  • We understand that having an IIS in between may introduce a few miliseconds delay, but we have a situation whare a 40Kb picture file needs about 4000 miliseconds to be delivered through IIS and only 200 ms when delivered directly from JBoss.

Environment

  • JBoss AS 4.3.0 CP06
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 6.0

  • isapi_redirect.dll version 1.2.30
