Login into Kibana directly failing with "too many redirects"

When trying to log in into kibana the process fails with
ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS(on chrome). -
One have to retrieve a token by using the OpenShift console to navigate to a logfile and then use the archive to connect to Kibana. Then one can directly access the kibana URL again.
