Installation of new "kernel-firmware" package files conflicts with file from older version of kernel-firmware" package.

Issue

  • While we are trying to install kernel package it throws below dependency error.
    Eg:
# rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.32-279.11.1.el6.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
        kernel-firmware >= 2.6.32-279.11.1.el6 is needed by kernel-2.6.32-279.11.1.el6.x86_64
  • And when trying to install, the kernel-firmware package it throws below error.
    Eg:
# rpm -ivh kernel-firmware-2.6.32-279.11.1.el6.noarch.rpm
Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
        file /lib/firmware/isci/isci_firmware.bin from install of kernel-firmware-2.6.32-279.11.1.el6.noarch conflicts with file from package kernel-firmware-2.6.32-131.0.15.el6.noarch
        file /usr/share/doc/kernel-firmware-2.6.32/WHENCE from install of kernel-firmware-2.6.32-279.11.1.el6.noarch conflicts with file from package kernel-firmware-2.6.32-131.0.15.el6.noarch
