RuntimeException discards the EJB3 stateful session bean instance in JBoss EAP

Issue

  • If a call to a stateful session bean method returns a RuntimeException, which the client is catching and logging, a subsequent call to that method with the same session bean handle is throwing the exception:

    javax.ejb.NoSuchEJBException: Could not find stateful bean: abcdefg-hijklm-nopqrstu-v-wxyz1234-567 (bean was marked as removed
    at org.jboss.ejb3.cache.simple.SimpleStatefulCache.get(SimpleStatefulCache.java:543)
