udev rules issue modifying DM-multipath device's ownership and permissions

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Using DM-multipath for multipathing external SAN storage devices. The /etc/multipath.conf file has been modified correctly to provide us device names in /dev/mapper and /dev/mpath like this:

        /dev/mpath/ora_asm_fra01
        /dev/mpath/ora_asm_fra01p1
        /dev/mpath/ora_asm_fra01p2

However, need to change the default ownership and permissions on these devices and are trying to use udev rules. Tried to put some modifications into the 40-multipath.rules file accomplish this, but it does not work.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5u2
  • udev
