NetApp NFS servers may send corrupted OPEN_DOWNGRADE response leading to infinite loop in the NFS client of WRITE (NFS4ERR_STALE_STATEID = 10023) followed by RENEW (NFS_OK)
Issue
- Following an update to an NFS server running NetApp Data ONTAP 8.1.2, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 NFS clients begin to periodically hang when using NFSv4.
- The following is visible in
/var/log/messagesbefore the hang:
NFS: v4 server xyz-nfs-server returned a bad sequence-id error!
- The hang is only recoverable via a reboot.
