RHEV hosts rebooting unexpectedly.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Hypervisor becomes unresponsive and hangs.
  • Hosts have been randomly rebooting. They have power management enabled.
  • The 'messages' files on the hosts do not contain any shutdown messages or anything to indicate that a panic or may have occurred. The vdsm logs just stop logging messages and then start logging again when vdsm restarts. .
  • The question is whether the hosts are crashing and therefore just rebooting by themselves, whether they are hanging and are being fenced by the RHEV Manager, or whether VDSM is not responding resulting in the host being fenced.
  • In some instances, it appears that RHEV-M could not contact the host to try to fence it when it went "non responsive", yet in others it was able to.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) 3.0.3
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.3 hosts
  • Various versions of VDSM, e.g. 4.9.6-45.2, 4.9.6-44.3, 4.9-113-3
  • Various versions of libvirt, e.g. 'libvirt-0.9.10-21.el6_3.7', 'libvirt-0.9.10-21.el6_3.8'.
