systemd-udev: net_id: Interface Consistent Device Naming is broken in 7.4 for sfc driver (solarflare)

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After updating to RHEL 7.4, the interface name of Solarflare interfaces have changed. This can cause network configurations which depend on a matching interface name to fail to apply.
  • With an older RHEL 7 system, the names were something like ens1f0 and ens1f1. After the update to RHEL 7.4, the same interfaces now appear with the names ens1f0np0 and ens1f1np1.
  • Does it is expected to have ens1f0np0 names in RHEL 8?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4
  • Solarflare NIC (sfc driver)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
