Why does my system hangs at "starting udev" after updating some packages? My system is using LDAP authentication.

Later versions of the nss_ldap package have changes in the default bind behavior that can cause the system to take a long time to timeout when the the LDAP server is inaccessible. This can appear to cause the system to hang when it tries to start certain system services at boot. To work around this, add the following lines to the /etc/ldap.conf file:
