  • Intel X710 i40e link flap or reset on bonding or teaming slave when entering or leaving promiscuous mode
  • LACP 802.3ad bonding slave goes down or churns or drops out of Aggregator when running promisc application like tcpdump or Wireshark or nmap.
  • The following messages are logged:
device enp4s0f0 entered promiscuous mode
i40e 0000:04:00.0 eth0: speed changed to 0 for port eth0
bond0: link status up again after 0 ms for interface eth0

device eth0 left promiscuous mode
bond0: link status up again after 0 ms for interface eth0

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 (kernel-3.10.0-514.el7) and earlier
  • Intel NIC with i40e driver
  • Bonding or teaming in LACP 802.3ad mode (optional)
  • SR-IOV VFs with bridges (optional)
