virt-viewer crashes on Windows when the client display is running at 16-bit color depth

Issue

• The following error was produced on screen during normal use of a RHEV VM:
  

• Using remote-viewer.exe on Windows XP to connect to a Spice console, the application produced the following Windows error after a few minutes of being connected to the console:
