Issue

  • chmod, chown or chgrp fails silently on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 and above clients mounting an NFS share.
  • If the share is first traversed before issuing one of the above commands they will succeed.
  • The commands appear to succeed on the client machine but do not issue on-the-wire setattr's.

Environment

  • Client:
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux ≥ 6.3
    • kernel ≥ 2.6.32-279.13.1
    • Mounting NFS share
  • Server:
    • Sharing NFS
