chmod, chown or chgrp fails silently on an NFS share mounted on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 and above NFS client
Issue
- chmod, chown or chgrp fails silently on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 and above clients mounting an NFS share.
- If the share is first traversed before issuing one of the above commands they will succeed.
- The commands appear to succeed on the client machine but do not issue on-the-wire setattr's.
Environment
- Client:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux ≥ 6.3
- kernel ≥ 2.6.32-279.13.1
- Mounting NFS share
- Server:
- Sharing NFS
