Why do dependent services not get restarted when the dependency service fails and recovers in a RHEL 5 or 6 cluster using central_processing mode?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Two node cluster consisting of parent service on one node and a dependent service running on another node.

  • When using central_processing="1" and a dependency service is manually moved from node A to node B, the dependent service automatically stops and then is started after the dependency is started. However, if the dependency service fails and relocates automatically, the dependent service does not restart.

  • Dependent services are not restarted properly with central_processing enabled

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 or 6 with the High Availability Add On
  • central_processing="1" in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf
  • RHEL 5: rgmanager prior to release 2.0.52-37.el5_9.1
  • RHEL 6: rgmanager prior to release 3.0.12.1-12.el6
