Kernel panic during boot or runtime because of a third party 'scdrv' module

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After patching the system to RHEL 6.9 or RHEL 6.10, the kernel panics when booting from the latest kernel:

    sch_place_binfmt_hooks+0x5d/0xc0 [scdrv]

  • This issue happens right after 'initializing non-interactive startup' when init propagates during the boot process and eventually, the system halts due to a kernel panic.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.10
  • kernel-2.6.32-696.x.y.el6.x86_64
  • kernel-2.6.32-754.x.y.el6.x86_64
  • Mcafee Solidcore agent
