kernel panic due to out of memory (OOM) caused due to bug in upstream vsftpd-3.0.3

Issue

  • The machine panics due to Out of Memory(OOM) even when swap is 100% free.
  • Server is running Upstream/complied version of 'vsftpd-3.0.3' which was never release for RHEL-6, and due to possible bug/memory leak in
    this package server panic due to OOM.
  • Most of the vsftpd process were in Z-state

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Kernel-2.6.32-642.6.2.el6
  • Third party/Upstream vsftpd-3.0.3
