Why is my system hanging at boot with "Scanning for Devices"?
Issue
- After patching server and rebooting it, the server does not initialize or come up. On a Dell system, boot seems to hang with message:
Scanning for devices. Please wait, this may take several minutes....with a blinking cursor. This failure occurs before the grub menu appears.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- Dell system
