/proc/<PID>/wchan may show an incorrect value in Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 3, 4, and 5

Issue

WCHAN values normally should be the memory address or name of the  function which the process is currently executing. However, in some  process states, WCHAN values such as found using the ps command or in /proc/<PID>/wchan are not the exact name or address of the kernel  function in which the process is executing.
