Booting after updating from RHEL 5.8 to 5.9 on Hyper V guest fails with a kernel panic.

Issue

  • After updating to RHEL5.9 kernel in Hyper-V guests, the new kernel is not able to find the filesystem and is issuing "VolGroup00 not found" and "Unable to access resume device(/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01)" messages while booting.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9
  • Kernel 2.6.18-348.el5 or later.
  • Microsoft Virtual Server
