How to test TCP and UDP port connectivity using the nc (netcat) utility

• How to verify if a port can be opened successfully in RHEL by using nc(netcat).
• How to verify if a specific TCP or UDP port can be opened and reached over the network.
• Need to isolate whether a network connection failure is caused by an external firewall/router, or by a local application misconfiguration.
