DHNAK messages in instance while trying to renew DHCP lease in Red Hat OpenStack Platform with nova networking

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • Why DHNAK messages are reported in instance message file while trying to renew DHCP lease?
  • Following messages reported on compute node during the same time.
Mar 1 06:48:53 compute-node dnsmasq-dhcp[25467]: DHCPREQUEST(vlan100) 192.168.0.10 aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa
Mar 1 06:48:53 compute-node dnsmasq-dhcp[25467]: DHCPNAK(vlan100) 192.168.0.10 aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa lease not found
Mar 1 06:48:53 compute-node dnsmasq-dhcp[25467]: DHCPDISCOVER(vlan100) aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa
Mar 1 06:48:53 compute-node dnsmasq-dhcp[25467]: DHCPOFFER(vlan100) 192.168.0.10 aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa
Mar 1 06:48:53 compute-node dnsmasq-dhcp[25467]: DHCPREQUEST(vlan100) 192.168.0.10 aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa
Mar 1 06:48:53 compute-node dnsmasq-dhcp[25467]: DHCPACK(vlan100) 192.168.0.10 aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa instance
  • In RHEL 6 and RHEL 7 instances, this leads to a loss of static routes which are configured in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/routes-<NIC>

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenStack Platform 5.0 on RHEL 7
  • nova network with linux bridges
