Why after updating the system to RHEL 7.3, system does not boot with RHEL 7.2 or RHEL 7.3 kernel or any of the previous kernels ?

- Why after updating the system to RHEL 7.3, system does not boot with RHEL 7.2 or RHEL 7.3 kernel or any of the previous kernels ?
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2
- yum update to RHEL 7.3
- System fails to boot using RHEL 7.2 kernel after the update as well
