RHEL7.3: After updating from RHEL7.2 to RHEL7.3, nfsidmap randomly maps ownership to user '4294967294'

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After updating to nfs-utils-1.3.0-0.33.el7.x86_64 files created on NFSv4 shares randomly appear being owned by uid 4294967294, gid 4294967294 (64-bit value for -2 (Hex FFFFFFFE) which represents "anonymous").
  • This only happens on servers running RHEL 7.3 It does not happen if we boot the servers with the kernel from RHEL 7.2 or on servers running RHEL 7.2

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3
    • nfs-utils-1.3.0-0.33.el7.x86_64
    • kernel between 3.10.0-514.el7 and earlier than kernel-3.10.0-514.21.1.el7
  • nfsidmapping is used
