Wrapper starts Fuse as root, when invoked from an init script

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

The documented method of running Fuse as a boot-time service on RHEL 6.x -- and other systems that use SysV-style service management -- is to install the Tanuki Java wrapper and link bin/karaf-service to a file in /etc/init.d. By default this will run Fuse as root, which is often undesirable.

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Fuse
    • 6.x
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
    • 6.x

Not relevant to RHEL 7 and later, because these platforms to not use SysV-style initialization. Nothing in this article applies to systemd.
