Issue

  • wpa_supplicant fails to connect to wifi with many Access Points
  • wpa_supplicant can connect to wifi with a low number of APs
  • Once number of virtual APs goes above 145:
# iw dev wlp3s0 scan | grep ^BSS | wc -l
150
  • The /var/log/messages file is flooded with:
wpa_supplicant: ioctl[SIOCGIWSCAN]: Argument list too long

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Large number of WiFi Access Points
  • wpa_supplicant.service connecting to WiFi
