Is my NVDIMM RAM supported by Red Hat Enterprise Linux?
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
- System equipped with NVDIMM RAM Modules
Issue
Is my NVDIMM RAM supported by Red Hat Enterprise Linux?
Resolution
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
The infrastructure for Non-Volatile Dual In-line Memory Module (NVDIMM RAM) support is not available in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. As such a system with NVDIMM RAM running RHEL 6 will not see the NVDIMM RAM modules. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 does not support NVDIMM RAM technology and it is not planned to support it in any future release.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and 8
Support for Non-Volatile Dual In-line Memory Module (NVDIMM RAM) persistent memory architecture via the libnvdimm
kernel subsystem is available in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 starting with Update 3 (RHEL 7.3) and is in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 starting with its initial release (RHEL 8.0). The table below documents the release in which the NVDIMM modes became available.
Mode | RHEL 7 | RHEL 8 |
---|---|---|
sector | 7.3 (7.6 when used as a boot device) | 8.0 |
fsdax | 7.3 (Technology Preview) | 8.0 (Technology Preview) |
devdax | 7.4 | 8.0 |
raw | 7.3 | 8.0 |
