Will the loss of public network communication cause a node to be fenced in a cluster?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • If one of the private NICs goes down in a two node cluster then cluster communication between nodes is lost and one of the nodes is fenced. If one of the public NICs goes down instead, is the node fenced if public network communications are hampered?

Environment

  • Red Hat Cluster Suite (RHCS)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux High Availability add-on (RHEL-HA)
