ntpd crashing with the error 'No more memory!' on RHEL5

ntpd crashing with the following message :
Exiting: No more memory! -
ntpd daemon terminates with "out of memory message"
Jan 10 13:15:36 server ntpd[1234]: kernel time sync status 0040 Jan 10 13:15:51 server out of memory [1234]
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 (64 bit)
- ntp package version prior to
ntp-4.2.2p1-15.el5
