Why does my cluster node print "md: stopping all md devices" and reboot after heuristics fail on Red Hat Enterprise Linux?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Can you please explain the following log sequence?
Nov 24 06:20:35 node2 qdiskd[13444]: <info> Heuristic: '/bin/ping -c1 -w1 10.1.1.254' DOWN (3/3)
Nov 24 06:20:35 node2 qdiskd[13444]: <notice> Score insufficient for master operation (0/1; required=1); downgrading
Nov 24 06:20:35 node2 kernel: md: stopping all md devices.
<node reboots>
Nov 24 06:26:48 node2 syslogd 1.4.1: restart.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 (with the High Availability and Resilient Storage Add Ons)
  • At least 2 nodes in a Red Hat High Availability cluster
    • Quorum disk is used as a tie-breaker, and at least 1 heuristic is used. Issue triggers when heuristic fails on one node.
  • It is irrelevant whether mdraid devices are configured or not. The message "md: stopping all md devices" will print regardless.
