When trying to configure bonding in balance-tlb/alb (5/6) mode with 2 ibmveth NICs, bond interface never gets a DHCP lease.

Issue

  • When trying to configure bonding in balance-tlb/alb (5/6) mode with 2 ibmveth NICs. The bonding interface comes up and there are lots of messages in dmesg:

[ 7681.475649] bonding: bond0: enslaving eth2 as an active interface with an up link.
[ 7682.118900] ibmveth 30000003 eth1: tx: h_send_logical_lan failed with rc=-4

[ 7682.118924] ibmveth 30000003 eth1: tx: h_send_logical_lan failed with rc=-4  
[ 7682.118932] ibmveth 30000005 eth2: tx: h_send_logical_lan failed with rc=-4  
[ 7682.118938] ibmveth 30000005 eth2: tx: h_send_logical_lan failed with rc=-4  
  • The bonding interface never gets a DHCP lease.
